Becoming Advent

In the season of Advent, Pastors Allen and Spencer preach a series of sermons called, “Becoming Advent.” These messages are based on the four themes of the Advent candles. The meaning of each candle:
  • Hope (Purple Candle): The first candle lit, often called the Prophecy Candle, represents the hope for the coming of the Messiah, which was foretold by prophets.
  • Peace (Purple Candle): The second candle, known as the Bethlehem Candle, signifies peace, a gift brought by Christ’s birth and reflected in Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.
  • Joy (Pink Candle): The pink candle, lit on the third Sunday of Advent, represents joy and marks a shift in the season from penitential reflection to joyful anticipation as Christmas approaches.
  • Love (Purple Candle): The fourth candle symbolizes the love that surrounds us and comes from God, culminating in the ultimate gift of Jesus.

Memory Verse: “In that wonderful day when the Lord gives his people rest from sorrow and fear, from slavery and chains.” Isaiah 14:3
