Music Ministry Mission Statement
The Music Ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown seeks to glorify God through high-quality, spirit-filled music that nurtures faith, inspires joy, and builds community. Through congregational song, choral, and instrumental ensembles, and the inclusion of all ages, we offer our gifts in worship—celebrating God’s love, teaching the meaning of our texts, and welcoming all into a shared experience of sacred beauty.
 
Position Purpose and Context
Following the retirement of our long-time Director of Music, First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown seeks a spiritually grounded and collaborative leader to guide the next chapter of its rich musical tradition. The Director of Music Ministry will preserve and expand our choral excellence, encourage participation across all ages, and foster unity across diverse worship expressions.
 
Position Summary
The Director of Music Ministry leads and coordinates the comprehensive music program of First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown (FPC), fostering worship that is Christ-centered, participatory, and theologically rich. The Director will direct choirs and ensembles for all ages, collaborate with clergy and staff in worship planning, and guide the integration of varied musical expressions while preserving the church’s Reformed identity and choral excellence. This full-time position requires availability on afternoons/evenings (as scheduled for rehearsals, performances, etc.) and Sunday mornings.
 
Key Responsibilities

Worship Leadership
  • Plan and lead music for all worship services in coordination with clergy and staff.
  • Direct adult, youth, and children’s choirs, emphasizing vocal formation, faith development, and engagement across generations.
  • Encourage strong congregational singing through thoughtful hymn selection, clear leadership, and accessible arrangements.
  • Maintain theological integrity and spiritual focus in all repertoire and worship choices.
Program Development
  • Maintain a sustainable choir program (graduated K-12 youth choirs, adult choir, handbell choir) that develops musicianship and discipleship.
  • Plan special worship and outreach events (Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, concerts, hymn sings, vespers, community outreach).
  • Foster collaboration between traditional and contemporary services.
Collaboration & Team Leadership
  • Partner closely with pastors, the associate director, contemporary worship leader, and technical staff to ensure unified and reverent worship experiences.
  • Oversee and coordinate accompanists, instrumentalists, section leaders, and volunteers.
  • Work with the Music and Worship Committees under the guidance of Session to steward resources and articulate a shared vision for the ministry.
Administration
  • Develop and manage the annual music ministry budget.
  • Serve ex ofWork with support staff to coordinate rehearsal and performance schedules, facility use, and communication with musicians.
  • Oversee music library, instruments, and sound/tech coordination.
Preferred Qualities
  • Deep personal faith and understanding of Reformed worship and theology.
  • Strong choral conducting and rehearsal leadership across age groups.
  • Ability to accompany soloists, choirs, and/or lead congregational song
  • Ability to plan and direct worship with artistic excellence.
  • Collaborative leadership style—able to build bridges between services, staff, and congregants.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Openness to diverse musical expressions rooted in sacred tradition.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music; Master’s degree in sacred music or choral conducting preferred. Proficient knowledge of vocal technique.
  • 3-5 years of church music leadership experience (Reformed or Mainline Protestant setting preferred), including choral direction, worship planning, or ensemble leadership.
  • Keyboard (organ/piano) proficiency desirable.

Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries

Church Vision: We aspire to be beacons of God’s love and truth, growing together in faith and
relationship with Jesus Christ.
 
Position Overview: The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries leads and nurtures vibrant, Christ-centered ministries for 7th grade through post-college-age individuals within the church and broader community.
 
Accountability: Reports to the Associate Pastor, works closely with the Discipling Children and
Youth committee.
 
Key Responsibilities:
1. Relationship Building
a) Cultivate meaningful, authentic relationships with youth and their families within the church and local community.
b) Serve as a trusted spiritual mentor and role model, promoting spiritual formation, biblical literacy, and active participation in the life of the church.
c) Maintain connections with young adults who are away at college or entering early adulthood, encouraging continued engagement with the congregation.

2. Program Development and Leadership
a) Design, coordinate, and lead dynamic, age-appropriate ministry programs that foster faith development and community among youth and young adults.
b) Oversee and facilitate:
i) Weekly youth group meetings (Wednesday and Sunday evenings)
ii) Sunday School classes for middle and high school students
iii) CREDO (confirmation program for high schoolers)
iv) Annual youth retreats and mission / service projects
v) Post-high school programs such as Bible studies and fellowship gatherings.

3. Team Collaboration
a) Work collaboratively with church staff and the Discipling Children and Youth Committee to align youth ministry with the overall mission and vision of the church.
b) Partner with the Director of Children and Family Ministries to support family ministry and ensure smooth transitions from elementary to middle school.
c) Coordinate youth participation in congregational life and major church events.
d) Support and engage in “all-church” initiatives such as Vacation Bible School and Church Has Left the Building.

4. Volunteer Recruitment and Management
a) Recruit, equip, and support a team of volunteers to serve in youth ministry roles.
b) Ensure all volunteers adhere to church safety and child protection policies.
c) Provide ongoing training, encouragement and recognition for volunteer leaders.

5. Communication and Technology
a) Maintain regular communication with youth, parents, and volunteers through email, social media, and other platforms.
b) Use digital tools to enhance engagement and track program participation.
6. Administrative and Budget Oversight
a) Manage the youth ministry budget responsibly, including tracking expenses and submitting timely reports.
b) Coordinate calendar of events in collaboration with church staff to avoid scheduling conflicts and maximize participation.
 
Qualifications:
  • Mature personal Christian faith and willingness to affirm the teachings of the Presbyterian Church (USA)
  • Youth ministry experience preferred
  • College degree preferred, but not required
 
Work Schedule: Full time, including Sunday mornings; Wednesday and Sunday evenings. Other days/times depend on youth programming and congregational activities.
 
Compensation and Benefits: We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package including health insurance, paid time off, retirement contributions, and support for professional expenses.
